NXT 429 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: This episode of NXT showcased 4 matches that proves NXT has a bright future for 2018.  These diverse matches are a good mixture of old and new talent, and also is a great buildup episode to the upcoming NXT Takeover Philadelphia.

Episode tidbits

→General Manager of NXT told Shayna Baszler that she would not be getting a championship match by attacking people from behind.

→The Velveteen Dream let Johnny Gargano know that he did not earn the spot he took from him to qualify for the championship tournament.  He also let Johnny know that The Dream does not think he will be able to beat Andrade "Cien" Almas at NXT Takeover Philadelphia.

→Street Profits asked William Regal to consider them for a title opportunity due to them being undefeated.  Regal agreed to a #1 contenders match against the Authors of Pain set for next week.

→Lars Sullivan stated that he wants to face Killian Dain.

→Undisputed Era jumped SAnitY before their scheduled title rematch which caused William Regal to announce they will defend their tag titles regardless.  Roderick Strong asked to fight them, then Aleister Black came out and said he will tag team with Strong.

→William Regal made the NXT Takeover Philadelphia match between Adam Cole and Aleister Black an extreme rules match.

→NXT Year End Awards 2017 categories are still open.  Go to Twitter to vote for your favorites of 2017.

Match 1: Shayna Baszler defeats Dakota Kai in brutal fashion! (Match Grade: C)

Shayna abused Kai in a quick match.  She stomped the left arm of Kai & caused the match to be stopped.  She choked Kai after winning the match and refused to release the choke until Ember Moon came out to confront Baszler.

Match 2: Kassisus Ohno beats Raul Mendoza in a spirited affair. (Match Grade: B-)

Styles makes for a good match and this David VS Goliath match was fun to watch.  No Cinderella ending this week!

Match 3: Lars Sullivan dominates Lio Rush (Match Grade: C+)

The crowd was pro-Rush, but that did not matter one bit!  Rush tried to use his speed to make up for lack of size, but Lars made quick work of him nonetheless.

Match 4: Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish survived their tag title bout against Roderick Strong and Aleister Black. (Match Grade: B-)

The tag champs quickly saw a fair match would cause them to lose their titles quickly...so just like any champion would do, they adjusted accordingly!  The numbers game caused Black to become unfocused and that caused his team to lose the match.  After the match, the Undisputed Era gave Black a thorough beatdown!

You were shown the impacts that some superstars had during the course of the 2017 NXT campaign.

Match 1: NXT Champion Drew McIntyre retains his championship against Adam Cole in a match refed by Shawn Michaels (Match Grade: B-)

McIntyre showed, multiple times, that he is truly a strong individual.  Look for pure deadlifts of his small opponent.  This match provided you with a lot of drama.

NXT 427 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 3 matches that led to a culmination of one event, but the beginning of another event.  This episode is another build-up episode for the upcoming NXT Takeover Philadelphia.

Episode tidbits

Street Profits declared that they will have Tag Team gold in 2018.

Kairi Sane wants a shot at Ember Moon and the NXT Women's championship.  This lead to Shayna Baszler sneaking behind Sane and choking her out!

Ember Moon declares that any woman trying to make a statement about the NXT Woman's Championship should step in the ring and do so.

Authors of Pain says the tag champs Undisputed ERA are on borrowed time.

NXT 2017 year in review will be shown next week.

NXT Tag Team Championship rematch in 2 weeks between SAnitY & Undisputed ERA.

Match 1: Street Profits makes quick work of Kris Starr & Riley Apex (Match Grade: C)

Too short of a match on a dominant win by the Street Profits to rank this match any higher.

Match 2:  NXT Women's Champion Ember Moon retains her title versus Sonya Deville  (Match Grade: C+)

Sonya has shown much in-ring growth, but Ember did her homework to neutralize all Sonya's moves.

Match 3:  A surprise win for Johnny Gargano over Lars Sullivan, Killian Dane and Aleister Black to earn the #1 Contender spot to face Andrade "Cien" Almas at NXT Takeover Philadelphia for the NXT Championship  (Match Grade: B)

Once Dane made his dive through the middle rope onto Sullivan, you already knew this was going to be the match of the night!  Who actually predicted Johnny Wrestling would win the spot?  I did not...

NXT 426 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 3 matches in this decent episode of NXT.  This episode is a buildup episode for the upcoming NXT Takeover Philadelphia.

Episode tidbits

Roderick Strong & Lars Sullivan both had vignettes shown.

Sabatelli & Moss may have Heavy Machinery in their future.

Sonya Deville versus Ember Moon next week for the Woman's Championship.

Shayna Baszler is coming soon to the NXT Women's Division.  If you remember correctly, that is the young lady that was the runner-up in the inaugural May Young Classic.

Spoiler Alert:  Fatal 4-Way #1 Contender Qualifier match (F41Q) concluded this week.  You will have Aleister Black, Killian Dane, Johnny Gargano & Lars Sullivan via for the opportunity to take on Andrade "Cien" Almas at the upcoming Takeover.  That match takes place next week.

Match 1: There are new NXT Tag Team Champions after Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly sneaks a win over Eric Young and Killian Dain (Match Grade: C+)

How did the undersized competitors neutralize the size and talent of Killian Dain?   Adam Cole baby!!!

Match 2:  F41Q Match:  Lars Sullivan is too much for Roderick Strong  (Match Grade: C+)

Sullivan proved to be too strong for Roderick.

Match 3:  NXT United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne retains his title against Tyler Bate (Match Grade: B-)

Did Pete dislocate Tyler's fingers?  This match had everything possible to give in a wrestling match.

NXT 425 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 4 matches in this decent episode of NXT.  This episode is a buildup episode for the upcoming NXT Takeover Philadelphia.

Episode tidbits

This episode, or a reasonable facsimile of this episode, was shown on the USA Network as part of WWE week on the USA Network.  You still received a better product of the two showings on the WWE Network.

UK Champion Pete Dunne vs Tyler Bate next week for the title.

Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly of Undisputed ERA vs SAnitY next week for the tag team titles.

Shayna Baszler is coming soon to the NXT Women's Division.  If you remember correctly, that is the young lady that was the runner-up in the inaugural May Young Classic.

Ember Moon was jumped by Team Iconic Duo until Nikki Cross came and fought both ladies off the champ.  Cross then took a long gaze at the championship belt before running out of the arena.

Fatal 4-Way #1 Contender Qualifier match (F41Q) will continue next week.

Match 1: NXT Champion Andrade "Cien" Almas had his hands full in his victory over Fabian Aichner (Match Grade: C+)

This was a fast paced, action filled match with big hits. This match was way too short.

Match 2:  The Authors of Pain made quick work of Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch  (Match Grade: C+)

This was more of a statement match for The Authors of Pain.  This match had to be under 2 minutes against a gamed opponent!  Way too short of a match.

Match 3:  NXT Women's Champion Ember Moon gets a quality win over Peyton Royce  (Match Grade: C+)

Peyton is getting better with each match.  Peyton was just not good enough to beat the champ.

Match 4:  F41Q Match:  Aleister Black was given a lot from Adam Cole, but still prevails  (Match Grade: C+)

This was back and forth action that delivered taunting and big hits.  Black mass made the difference.

NXT 424 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 3 matches in this decent episode of NXT.  This episode is a buildup episode for the upcoming NXT Takeover Philadelphia.

Episode tidbits

Drew McIntyre's injury has lead to qualifying matches that will lead to a Fatal 4-Way to determine the new #1 contender for the NXT Championship.  The winner of the Fatal 4-Way will face Andrade "Cien" Almas at NXT Takeover  Philadelphia.

Zelena Vega wants the NXT Universe to embrace thew Cien Era.

Lars Sullivan can't wait to get his hands on Roderick Strong in 2 weeks so he can get one step closer to being Cien in Philadelphia.

Aleister Black vs Adam Cole next week in the Fatal 4-Way #1 Contender Qualifier match (F41Q).

Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly vs SAnitY in 2 weeks.

Women's Champion Ember Moon vs Peyton Royce next week.

UK Champion Pete Dunne vs Tyler Bate in two weeks.

Match 1: F41Q Match 1:  Trent Seven gets dominated by Killian Dain (Match Grade: C+)

Dain brought the pain.  Dain was just too big for Seven.

Match 2:  Sonya Deville viciously chokes out Ruby Riott (Match Grade: C+)

Sonya used the lax rules painfully and often.  This was a cool win for Sonya.  A triangle choke put Ruby to sleep.

Match 3:  F41Q Match 2:  Johnny Gargano gets a great momentum win over Kassius Ohno (Match Grade: B)

Size and strength advantage goes to Ohno.  Tenacity advantage goes to Johnny.  In a shocker, Gargano wins a physical match.

NXT 423 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 3 matches in this decent episode of NXT.  You had plenty of crowd favorites to view this week.

Episode tidbits

Mark Andrews will get a WWE United Kingdom Championship match if he and UK Champ Pete Dunne win their tag match.

Ruby Riot versus Sonya Deville next week in a No Holds Barred match.

Drew McIntyre will need to rest into the 2018 year to recover from his injury suffered at NXT Takeover WarGames.

Andrade "Cien" Almas championship celebration is next week.

Pete Dunne attacked Andrews after their match.

Match 1: The Street Profits, once again, beat Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss (Match Grade: C++)

This is a crowd favorite matchup.  Big moves from both teams.  This was an entertaining match overall.

Match 2:  Kairi Sane defeated Peyton Royce to give her wins over both members of the Iconic Duo (Match Grade: C+)

Peyton Royce is constantly showing in-ring improvement.

Match 3:  WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne teaming with Mark Andrews, was not enough to conquer Moustache Mountain members Tyler Bate & Trent Seven (Match Grade: C++)

The crowd was definitely pro-bruiserweight the entire match.  The UK Champion in well-liked.  You saw great tandem moves in this match.  Good mixture of technical wrestling, as well as crowd-pleasing high-risk maneuvers.
