NXT 422 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 2 matches in this good episode but also had a recap of NXT Takeover WarGames in Houston.  They made WarGames episode 421 on the network, hence the jump in number from this episode and last weeks episode.

If you have not watched NXT Takeover WarGames...stop everything and do so!  That Pay Per View was better than WWE Survivor Series the next day!

Episode tidbits

NXT Takeover WarGames (NXT 421) recap shown including exclusive footage

Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sara Logan attacked Naomi & Becky Lynch on SmackDown Live.

Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose helped Paige return to RAW by beating up Sasha Banks, Bayley, Mickie James and RAW Women's Champion Alexa Bliss.

Lars Sullivan says anyone in the locker room that gets in his way will be destroyed by his hands.

Drew McIntyre injured his arm at WarGames.  He said he will be back for his championship.

Street Profits vs Tino and Moss rematch next week.

Kairi Sane vs Peyton Royce next week.

Match 1: Ruby Riot gets a hard-fought win over Sonya Deville (Match Grade: C+)

Many technical spots in this match.  Possibly both ladies last match on NXT.

Match 2:  WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne retains his title against Johnny Gargano (Match Grade: B-)

The crowd was split between both competitors.  This match had big hits, big moves, and even biting!

NXT 420 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 3 matches in this episode with 2 of the matches with direct, known implications leading up to NXT Takeover War Games in Houston.  This episode was better than expected.

Episode tidbits

After the Lars Sullivan & Raul Mendoza match, Kassius Ohno stopped Lars from doing real damage to Raul.

Johnny Gargano vs UK Champion Pete Dunne for the championship next week.

Andrade "Cien" Almas, once again, got the best of Drew McIntyre in their face to face meeting.

Match 1: The Street Profits gets a win over Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss (Match Grade: C+)

Solid showing for both teams.  I wish the finishing move by The Street Profits was better this week.

Match 2:  Lars Sullivan dominates Raul Mendoza (Match Grade: C+)

This was a short and dominating win for Lars.

Match 3: Ember Moon defeats Mercedes Martinez (Match Grade: C+)

This match was actually more physical of a match than I would expect from Ember Moon so close to a championship match.

NXT 419 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 4 matches in this episode leading up to NXT Takeover Houston.  This episode was entertaining.

Episode tidbits

Mercedes Martinez gets a match with Ember Moon next week.

Kassius Ohno tells NXT General Manager William Regal that he wants a match with Lars Sullivan at NXT Takeover Houston and Regal gives him the match.

Zelena Vega says no one can beat the new and focused Andrade "Cien" Almas.  Drew McIntyre and Cien will have a face to face meeting next week.

Tino Sabatelli & Riddick Moss versus Street Profits next week.

War Games vignette was shown to explain the history and the rules of the match.

Ruby Riot needs 2 to 3 weeks to recover from her ankle injury.  Sonya Deville blames Riot failure to tap from her ankle lock submission to why Sonya is not in the NXT Women's Championship match.  Riot asked for a match with Sonya when she does get healed up from her injury and Sonya agreed.

Match 1: Heavy Machinery beats Chris Pain and Sean Maluta (Match Grade: C+)

Too short of a match.  These big guys have talent.

Match 2:  Kairi Sane beats Billie Kay (Match Grade: C+)

This match had an expected flow.  Nothing new to report here.

Match 3: Velveteen Dream dominates Cezar Bononi (Match Grade: C+)

The Dream was all focus.  I thought he was going to hit the referee for trying to stop his domination!

Match 4: Adam Cole was disqualified when Undisputed ERA came to save their leader from Roderick Strong (Match Grade: C+)

The backbreaker from the top rope was the beginning of the end of this match.  A preview for NXT Takeover Houston War Games happened once Undisputed Era interfered.

NXT 418 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You had 3 solid matches this episode leading up to NXT Takeover Houston.  This episode was entertaining.

Episode tidbits

Mercedes Martinez talked noise about Ember Moon coming up short in big matches.  She feels Moon will lose at NXT Takeover Houston

Aleister Black versus The Velveteen Dream at NXT Takeover Houston.

Street Profits may have a match with the NFL Players turned wrestlers soon.

Kairi Sane versus Billie Kay next week.

Drew McIntyre versus Andrade "Cien" Almas at NXT Takeover Houston.  Drew was attacked from behind by Cien when they were supposed to sign the match contract.  Cien used gum from his manager, Zelena, to stick the signed contract on Drew.

Roderick Strong refused to join Undisputed ERA.

Roderick Strong and the Authors of Pain versus SAnitY versus Undisputed ERA at NXT Takeover Houston in a War Games match format - 2 rings surrounded by a steel cage!

Match 1: Nikki Cross beat Taynara Conti (Match Grade: C+)

Too short of a match despite the match being entertaining.

Match 2:  Fabian Aichner gets a quality win over Johnny Gargano (Match Grade: B)

Fabian Aichner is STRONG!  Both competitors put on a show.  You saw unique offense all match.

Match 3: Authors of Pain and SAnitY ended in a no contest thanks to Undisputed ERA (Match Grade: B)

Authors of Pain had this match won but Undisupted ERA had other plans!

NXT 417 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: You ALMOST had 4 matches this episode and all storylines look as if they will impact NXT Takeover Houston.  This was a solid episode to watch.

Episode tidbits

Roderick Strong has officially been asked to join Undisputed ERA.

Authors of Pain vs SAnitY next week for the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Drew McIntyre once again had to let Zelina Vega know that Andrade "Cien" Almas has to ask for a title shot face to face.  Zelina let everyone know that Cien will be asking for the title shot next week.

Match 1: Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli beats Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch (Match Grade: B)

The crowd was pro-Lorcan and Burch.  If you want big hits, then watch this match.

Match 2:  Nikki Cross wins a 17-Superstar NXT Women's Championship Qualifying Over The Toprope Battle Royal (Match Grade: B)

Nikki Cross and Bianca Belair are worth the price of admission!  Those two had almost every major highlight of the match.  Bianca is a true up and coming star!

Match 3: Aleister Black was making his way to the ring and was attacked from behind by The Velveteen Dream before an opponent could be announced (Match Grade: N/A)

I can not wait for the match to happen between them!  The most intriguing feud the WWE has right now is between these two.  The Velveteen Dream was trying to get Black to say his name, but once Black freed himself from the ropes, Dream hit the road!

Match 4: Andrade "Cien" Almas defeats Roderick Strong (Match Grade: B)

These boys smacked and did backbreakers on each other so wonderfully, to the delight of all that were watching!  Zelena interference in the match showed that she is more than just a cute lady!

NXT 416 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: Almost all matches had an immediate future impact.  You had 4 matches this episode.

Episode tidbits

More questionable interactions shown between Roderick Strong and Undisputed ERA.

The final spot for the NXT Women's Championship will be decided by a Battle Royal next week.

Drew McIntyre was interviewed and stated that being released by the WWE reignited his wrestling fire.  Andrade "Cien" Almas' manager, Zelina Vega, took over the interview and Drew that Almas wanted a title shot and is Drew's biggest threat.  Drew told her to get Almas and have him ask for a title shot to his face.

Johnny Gargano versus Fabian Aichner in 2 weeks.

Match 1: Ember Moon beats Ruby Riot and Sonya Deville in the NXT Women's Championship Qualifier match (Match Grade: B-)

Moon and Riot showcased women's wrestling done properly.  Riot may have seriously hurt her ankle during this match.

Match 2:  Raul Mendoza comes up short against Aleister Black (Match Grade: B)

Black was temporarily distracted from The Velveteen Dream, who put on Black's Jacket right before the match truly started.  Mendoza tried to capitalize on the distraction but to no avail.  Black still opted to ignore Dream despite losing a jacket in the process.

Match 3: Kassius Ohno beat Cezar Bononi (Match Grade: C+)

The experience of Ohno ended up being the difference maker in a back and forth physical match.

Match 4: SAnitY and Undisputed ERA match ended in a no contest (Match Grade: B+)

Kilian Dane started the match going from decent to good.  The match went to another level when the Authors of Pain showed up and beat up SAnitY!

NXT 415 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: Not much talking at all this episode and I loved it!  You had 5 matches this episode.

Episode tidbits

Drew McIntyre will be interviewed next week.

Ember Moon will get a chance to qualify for the NXT Women's Championship next week.

Match 1: Liv Morgan and Nikki Cross loses to Peyton Royce in the NXT Women's Championship Qualifier match (Match Grade: C)

Outside interference stopped Cross from winning this match.  The shocker was that the interference did not come from the other half of Team Iconic, but came from Mae Young Classic Qualifier Taynara Conti!

Match 2:  Lio Rush comes up short against The Velveteen Dream (Match Grade: B)

The match should have been longer.  This match was short but exciting.  Rush was outsized by the Dream, but I hope to see him moved to 205 Live by next week!

Match 3: Lars Sullivan dominates Danny Burch (Match Grade: C+)

Lars is still a monster.  Burch looked like a cruiserweight against Lars.

Match 4: The Street Profits clowns and gets an easy win against Damien Smith & Marcos Espada (Match Grade: C+)

The Profits are too big for this team.  This was a scrimmage match for them!

Match 5: Johnny Gargano falls to Andrade "Cien" Almas once again (Match Grade: C+)

This was actually a decent match, but for some reason, the crowd did not stay consistently engaged.  There were plenty of big pops in the match.
