NXT 401 on the WWE Network:

Verdict: 3 matches, the return of Johnny Gargano and a championship match for the third week in a row.  Overall, just a decent show at best.

Episode tidbits

Ruby Riot vs Ember Moon next week.

A tag team known as "Street Profits" will be coming to NXT soon.

Hideo Itami blames Kassius Ohno for their tag team loss last week,  Ohno told Itami he is done with him.

Drew Mcintyre was attacked by SAnitY last week while trying to leave the arena.

Johnny Gargano says he will not dwell in the past about the betrayal of Ciampa.  Johnny stated that Takeover Brooklyn is coming and that he needs to be part of that.

William Regal told Bobby Roode that Drew McIntyre and Killian Dain are both undefeated and want a shot at the NXT Championship.  Roode said to make them face each other, to which Regal agreed.  The winner of that match will get a championship shot at NXT Takeover Brooklyn.

SAnitY, minus Eric Young AGAIN, came out after the Authors of Pain match.  SAnitY had pages of a book falling on them while staring at the Authors of Pain.

Match 1: Aleister Black defeats Bobby Fish (Match Grade: C+)

This was the NXT debut for Bobby Fish.  Fish had a methodical approach of weakening the legs of Black throughout the match.  This match began as a technical match but ended with big pops.

Match 2: Vanessa Borne defeats Jayme Hachey in a Mae Young Qualifying Match  (Match Grade: C)

The speed of the match needed to increase for this performance. Both competitors are definitely not fluid enough for the main stage.

Match 3: NXT Tag Champions Authors of Pain defeats Heavy Machinery (Match Grade: B-)

Authors of Pain (AOP) was actually outweighed for this match against Heavy Machinery (HM)!  From the onset of this match, HM proved they would not be an easy challenge for the tag champions.  Otis of HM gave this match all the energy needed for both teams.  AOP tag team experience proved to be the difference maker in this match.
